Australian utility Stanwell will purchase 50% of the energy produced from Genex Power’s 258MW Kidston Stage Three wind farm (K3W).
The 15-year power purchase will see Stanwell become the largest energy offtaker from the North Queensland project, which is being developed by Genex in partnership with Japanese utility, J-POWER.
K3W forms part of the Kidston Clean Energy Hub, which also includes solar and pumped hydro capacity.
The agreements executed include a Memorandum of Understanding where it is proposed that the parties work together to facilitate that Stanwell’s asset maintenance business, SAMCo, will secure the maintenance services contract at the Kidston Clean Energy Hub.
Genex expects K3W will commence operations by December 2026.
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said the power purchase agreement will provide a boost to the company’s ability to provide renewable energy to meet increasing demand by our customers.
“This is yet another win for Queensland and our commercial and industrial customers who want clean, reliable and affordable energy to power their businesses,” he said.
“Stanwell is continuing to transform our portfolio to support Queensland’s renewable energy future. A 50% offtake from the Kidston Wind Farm brings us one step closer to achieving the Queensland Government’s renewable energy targets.”
