Voltalia’s Rives Charentaises wind farm has started supplying power in France.
Straddling two departments, Charente and Vienne in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the 37.4MW park began electricity production in August with its first eight turbines.
The remaining nine machines will be phased in by the end of November.
Annual production will be about 78GWh hours and will avoid the equivalent of 12,700 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The wind farm has a PPA with SNFC Voyageur via its internal electricity supplier SNCF Energie, which will buy all of the plant’s production for 25 years.
The site will cover 1.4% of SNCF Voyageurs’ traction electricity consumption.
Voltalia chief executive Sebastien Clerc said: “In the current European context marked by considerable energy supply challenges, it is imperative to accelerate the growth of renewable, competitive and locally produced energies.
“We are therefore particularly pleased to announce the start of deliveries of the Rives Charentaises park to SNCF Voyageur.”
