The German Federal Network Agency has completed the planning approval procedure for the Elbe crossing for the SuedLink.
An approximately 8.5km-long section of the transmission line was approved.
Once the route has been determined, TenneT will be able to begin the further necessary work on the construction of the Elbe crossing.
For this purpose, the company is building a cable tunnel and the associated operating buildings.
The route begins north of the B431 in the municipality of Wewelsfleth in Schleswig-Holstein.
It crosses the B431 and then runs in the area of the district of Großwisch in Wewelsfleth.
The underground cables then run through an operating building into the tunnel to the Elbe crossing.
From there, they are passed under the River Elbe at a depth of up to 36 metres.
The tunnel is about 5km long and ends in a company building on the Lower Saxony side of the Elbe.
The line then leads to Schinkelweg in the municipality of Wischhafen.
The planning approval decision will be made available to the public in the joint municipality of Nordkehdingen and in the Wilstermarsch district from 18 September 2023 to 2 October 2023.
SuedLink consists of two direct current lines.
The Project 3 line connects Brunsbüttel in Schleswig-Holstein with Großgartach/Leingarten in Baden-Württemberg.
Project 4 leads from Wilster to Bergrheinfeld in Bavaria. Both wires are planned as underground cables.
They run parallel for a large part of the route. The transmission system players TenneT and TransnetBW are responsible for planning, construction and operation.
