Moray West boulder clearance kicks off

SaraBy SaraMarch 21, 20232 Mins Read
Moray East set to clear the way

Utility ROV Services has won a contract award from Moray Offshore Windfarm (West) Limited for boulder and debris clearance services on the Moray West offshore wind farm.

The Scottish offshore wind farm situated in the Moray Firth with an installed capacity of 882MW, is in the construction phase and requires clearance of any seabed objects along the route to ensure the safe installation of the subsea infrastructure.

Developed by Ocean Winds, Moray West site will consist of 60 wind turbines.

The UTROV technology, used by Utility ROV Services, has performed similar route clearance operations on over 30 offshore wind farm projects to date, including multiple phases on the sister Ocean Winds site, Moray East.

It will ensure the safe and efficient relocation of boulders, and any associated debris, along the export cable and array cable routes, as well as removing all obstacles from the turbine foundation and substation locations.

Utility ROV Services is chartering the Olympic Electra vessel to complete the offshore operations.

Pete Geddes, EPCI Director on Moray West, said: “We are delighted to partner with Utility ROV Services, a Scottish success story, for the delivery of the route clearance campaign at Moray West.

“The UTROV system is a tried and tested solution in the market, providing unrivalled productivity and reliability when completing subsea tasks. Moray West are looking forward to the additional value the UTROV can provide our project during what will be a safe and efficient offshore operation.

Patrick Crawford, Managing Director of Utility ROV Services, said: “The UTROV is now the benchmark technology for boulder relocation operations across the offshore energy industry.

“Our experienced in-house team, responsible for the continued high performance and 97% system uptime across our subsea operations are a credit to the business.”
