Iberdrola has awarded the Haizea Wind Group with a contract to supply 50 monopiles for the 1400MW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in the UK.
The deal, worth more than €200m, covers the supply of materials, engineering of the manufacturing process and manufacturing of the monopiles.
The company will fabricate the monopiles at its Haizea Bilbao facility in the Port of Biscay.
The announcement was made at a ceremony marking the beginning of work to expand the site.
The expansion will involve an investment of more than €150m and will expand the facility from 48,800 square metres to over 200,000 square metres.
The monopile contract will help create an additional 350 direct jobs for the site. In addition, it will require a new additional storage area to accommodate the monopiles, along with doubling the number of ships to six.
The expansion works will be carried out by the Basque company Amenabar.
