Welsh developer Pennant Walters is asking residents of Newbridge and Abercarn for feedback regarding upcoming proposals for Trecelyn Wind Farm.
The plans comprise up to five wind turbines on three parcels of land to the east of Newbridge and Abercarn, Caerphilly. The turbines have an indicative height of up to 145m, and are estimated to produce up to 20MW of electricity, equivalent to providing enough combined power for approximately 13,135 homes.
This site has been identified in a Pre-Assessed Area for onshore wind by the Welsh government in its ‘Future Wales’ document. This acts as the blueprint for how Wales can meet its aspiration to achieve 100% of its energy consumption from renewable sources, as well as 1.5GW of locally owned renewable energy capacity, by 2035.
Director of Environment and Sustainability at Pennant Walters, Meryl Lewis said: “Trecelyn Wind Farm has the potential to make a significant contribution towards the Welsh government’s aim to secure 100% of its energy from renewable sources in the fight against climate change, as well as benefitting the local area.
“We are always committed to community involvement from the beginning of our projects, so we are excited to discuss our proposals locally and incorporate community feedback.
“We are also hoping to discuss how we bring about local benefits to the area, through a community benefit fund, shared ownership and through the local supply chain.
“As a Welsh-owned company, this project will be ‘locally owned’, however we are also exploring further local shared ownership and community ownership opportunities in line with government targets.”
The deadline for comments is 31 March 2023.
