EEW Special Pipe Constructions has produced a record-breaking monopile for use on Vineyard Offshore’s 800MW Vineyard wind farm.
The 1895-tonne monopile is the heaviest produced in EEW’s history. When it was rolled off at the company’s Rostock site at the end of January, it broke the previous record set in July 2022.
In total, EEW SPC will process over 98,000 tonnes of steel into monopiles by summer 2023. The monopiles will each have a diameter of 9.6 metres with a maximum length of 85 metres.
Vineyard Wind 1 will be built some 15 miles off the coast of Massachusetts in the US. It is anticipated that the wind farm will deliver first power later this year and that more than 400,000 households will eventually be supplied with electricity from renewable sources.
