RWE has started construction of a 92MW solar project, in the province of Cádiz, Spain.
The Gazules project will consist of two solar parks when completed, Gazules 1 and 2, each with an output of 46MW.
Construction work on Gazules 1 has already begun, with full commissioning scheduled for the end of 2023.
Approximately 240,000 bifacial modules will be installed on a total area of 140 hectares.
Bifacial solar cells consist of double-sided modules, allowing solar radiation to be used on both the front and back.
A second glass pane on the rear side of the module ensures that even indirect light can generate electricity through reflected solar rays.
As a result, the yield and efficiency of the solar system can be significantly improved.
At the end of last year, RWE commissioned its 44 MW solar park Casa Valdes near Madrid.
Two other solar projects, Puerta del Sol near Casa Valdes and Las Vaguadas in the province of Badajoz, with a total of 54MW, are in the commissioning phase.
Following the commissioning of Gazules at the end of the year, RWE will operate a solar capacity of around 250MW in Spain.
