The New South Wales government in Australia has shortlisted a more than 4300MW project portfolio to take part in the first competitive tender of the state’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.
The 16 renewable generation and long duration storage schemes will now undergo a financial assessment before successful applicants are awarded long-term energy service agreements that will “underpin the modernisation of the state’s electricity system”.
It is the first in a series of government tenders planned for NSW that aim to deliver at least 12GW renewable energy and 2GW long duration storage like pumped hydro by 2030.
NSW treasurer and energy minister Matt Kean said the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap had attracted “overwhelming” investor interest.
He added: “This is a promising start to the A$32bn in private capital we expect to see through our 10-year schedule of rolling competitive tenders.
“The state’s nation-leading roadmap will ensure that NSW households and businesses have clean, reliable and more affordable electricity for decades to come.”
Shortlisted projects have until 10 February to submit their financial value bids.
These will then be assessed by AEMO Services for their potential to deliver long-term financial value for NSW households and businesses.
