Navantia Seaenergies and Windar Renovables have started fabricating the first of 14 XXL monopile foundations ordered for Ocean Winds’ 882MW Moray West offshore wind farm off Scotland.
The manufacturers said they have bended the first sheet and will build the monopiles for the wind farm at the Fene shipyard in Spain over the next 10 months.
Fabrication of the 2,000 ton monopiles, which have a length of 90 metres and a diameter of 10 metres, will create an average of 150 direct jobs per month.
Ocean Winds, a tie-up of EDPR and Engie, awarded the order to the Navantia and Windar alliance in July 2022.
In November, the developer also ordered 62 jackets from Navantia-Windar for its Dieppe le Treport offshore wind farm off northern France, with manufacturing to start at the Fene shipyard in the first quarter of 2023.
“Therefore for a few months two types of foundations will be produced for the same client”, a spokesperson for Navantia-Windar said.
