LS Cable & Systems has won a contract to deliver the onshore cable section for RWE’s 1GW Thor offshore wind farm.
Under the €31m procurement contract, the company will supply 21 individual cable sections each containing two 220kV cable systems with a combined length of approximately 28km.
The total length of a single core cable for Thor is approximately 175km.
The individual cable section lengths may be up to 1.5m long for 2.5sq mm cables.
In addition to cable production and delivery, the contract also includes supervision of civil works and cable pulling, manufacturing, delivery and installation of joints and terminations as well as final commissioning testing.
Civil works will be performed by a third-party contractor.
Delivery, installation, and testing is anticipated to take place across 2024.
