The partial master plan to expand the Finnish Tahkoluoto offshore wind farm has been approved.
Suomen Hyotytuuli Oy’s 44MW Tahkoluoto project was completed in 2017, making it both Finland’s first offshore wind farm and the world’s first to be built in freezing sea conditions.
The expansion scheme envisions building forty wind turbines with a capacity of over 15MW to the northwest of the current wind farm. The planning area covers 128sq km in the sea area off the coast of Pori.
The annual production of the planned offshore wind farm is estimated to reach 2000GWh. The project’s estimated completion date is 2027.
With the approval of the plan, the project will proceed to the water and building permit phase, technical planning and investment preparation.
Suomen Hyotytuule CEO Toni Sulameri said: “The expansion of Tahkoluoto is a significant step in the development of Suomen Hyotytuule’s offshore wind power towards market-based and responsible energy production.
“We see that the project acts as a starter for offshore wind power business in Finland.”
