Renewable Parts expands offshore turbines capability

Renewable Parts expands offshore turbines capability

Renewable Parts has expanded its remanufacturing capability to include a Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbine.

The expansion to cater to the SWT-3.6MW offshore wind turbine increases Renewable Parts’ growing re-use supply chain offering within the offshore wind market.

Working with partners and customers over several years, Renewable Parts has been developing recirculated supply chain solutions for the SWT-3.6MW spanning hydromechanical, electrical and electronic systems.

Using its re-use methodology, Renewable Parts has “significantly decreased” volumes of waste and scrap heading to landfill, and reduced carbon emissions associated with the manufacture of new component parts.

Operating across multiple UK wind farms, the SWT-3.6MW is one of the UK’s most popular first-generation offshore turbines, making it the next logical choice for remanufacture technology.

Its inclusion extends Renewable Parts capability on Siemens Gamesa portfolio of products, with the company already having “extensive knowledge” of the SWT-1.3 and SWT-2.3 onshore turbines.

Michael Forbes, Refurbishment Engineering Manager for Renewable Parts, said: “The Siemens SWT-3.6MW offshore turbines account for a high percentage of power generation around Europe.

“To meet our net zero commitments, it’s vital that their future parts requirements are increasingly met through circular economy (reuse), rather than a linear economy (buy new) procurement strategies.

“Employing our expanded R&D resource, in collaboration with external partners, like the University of Strathclyde, has allowed us to increase the circulation for many components for this turbine type.

“The company already supplies a wide range of recirculated parts for the on-shore fleet, enabling owner/operators to decarbonise their supply chains, and accelerate their journey towards net zero.”
