Sennen has been awarded a second contract by EDF Renewables to deliver turbine analysis software for its 10GW global wind farm portfolio.
The French utility will adopt the new technology, which was launched in the summer, to understand turbine behaviour across more than 5,000 machines at its onshore and offshore wind farms.
The new downtime analysis module processes turbine SCADA event logs in order to reduce their downtime.
It allows operators to quickly and accurately understand losses caused by individual defects, site incidents and other operational issues.
Existing systems for downtime analysis rely on an algorithm and are not able to leverage the power of user knowledge, Sennen said.
This makes it difficult and time consuming to calculate losses because it requires excessive cross referencing with other systems, it added.
Sennen said that its state of the art, user-friendly user interface allows ‘event stops’ to be viewed, investigated, overridden or enriched in a few clicks so the user can view and make informed decisions as quickly as possible.
This means more rapid and reliable information can be provided on causes of underperformance, it added.
This is Sennen’s second major contract with EDF Renewables following its agreement last year to deliver operations software for the developer’s global offshore wind portfolio.
EDF Renewables global head of cloud operations Laurent Valadares said: “Rapid and precise data analysis is fundamental to improving the performance of our wind turbine fleet, particularly as we expand our portfolio.
“Performing production assessments on all of our turbines is a huge challenge.
“In partnership with Sennen, we have a scalable system that can delve deeper into the relationships between the various causes of lost production and, ultimately, increase revenue.”
Sennen chief executive officer and co-founder Gaby Amiel (pictured) said: “This is a great example of how Sennen is helping the largest renewable energy companies in the world to digitise their operations, enabling them to work smarter and safer.
“We’re delighted to be chosen again by EDF Renewables to deliver another powerful application and look forward to building on this partnership.”
Sennen was founded in 2017 with the aim of creating high performance software specifically for managing renewable energy assets.
Its clients include London Array, which uses Sennen software as a control room to direct work happening on site; Foresight Group where Sennen is used to harvest data and improve performance of its renewable energy investment portfolio; and EDF Renewables.
