Alight and Tekniska Verken are adding battery storage to a 12MW solar park in Sweden.
The battery is 2MW/2 megawatt hour, making the site the largest co-located solar-plus-storage plant in Sweden and will be operational in December 2022.
The battery will contribute to balancing the national electricity grid through frequency regulation, ancillary services, and optimisation of solar energy production when needed by the grid owners and operators.
Alight’s 12MW solar park in Linköping is one of the largest solar parks in Sweden and was commissioned in 2020.
Alight is a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) provider in the Nordics, with just under 1GW of solar now under development or construction across over a dozen European countries, including the UK.
The company also builds, operates, and entirely owns solar projects onsite and offsite, across Europe, without state subsidies.
Alight then sells the solar power back to its corporate partners at fixed prices on 10 to 20-year contracts, shielding them from surges over extended periods of time.
