Portugal will increase the capacity of its inaugural offshore wind farm tender next year to 10GW, according to the country’s environment minister Duarte Cordeiro.
The minister announced the new target during a parliamentary committee hearing, according to Reuters.

Cordeiro had previously committed to tendering 6-8GW of projects in June, already double the government’s target at the start of 2022.
The Portuguese government’s increased ambition comes amid a growing energy crisis across Europe triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Cordeiro said that Portugal now intends to move faster on its energy transition, adding that technical details of the offshore wind tender and the final list of coastal locations are still being prepared.
