New UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has appointed Jacob Rees-Mogg as the new Secretary of State at Energy Department BEIS.
Rees-Mogg, who previously held the post of Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities, replaces Kwasi Kwarteng.
Kwarteng has been appointed Chancellor in the incoming PM’s new cabinet.
Graham Stuart was meanwhile appointed on Wednesday morning to the post of Minister for Climate at BEIS. He will attend cabinet.
Rees-Mogg tweeted that is was an “honour” to be appointed BEIS Secretary.
“I look forward to serving the Prime Minister and the country during the challenging times ahead,” he said.
Truss took over as PM today after yesterday beating Rishi Sunak to the leadership of the ruling Conservative party.
In her maiden speech outside Number 10 Downing Street on Tuesday, she pledged to tackle the energy crisis.
“We will get spades in the ground to make sure people are not facing unaffordable energy bills and we will also make sure, that we are building hospitals, schools, roads, and broadband,” she said.
“Secondly, I will deal hands-on with the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war.
“I will take action this week to deal with energy bills and to secure our future energy supply.”
