EDF Renewables has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner with one of Poland’s largest infrastructure companies to develop offshore wind in Poland.
The MoU outlines a 50:50 partnership between EDF Renewables and Budimex to “jointly commit to realising investments” as part of the second phase of offshore wind development in Poland.
As part of the second phase of offshore development, 11 new sites have been made available for the construction of offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
The capacity of the planned investments in the second phase is expected to reach 11GW.
EDF Renewables has submitted several seabed permit applications for new potential areas of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
The aim of the cooperation between Budimex and EDF Renewables in Poland is to “leverage the strengths” of both companies and obtain location permits under the applications submitted by EDF Renewables.
Budimex, as the largest general contractor of infrastructure projects in Poland, in which Spanish company Ferrovial is a stakeholder, will bring to the joint venture its “extensive experience” gained during the implementation of various investments in Poland and experience in the development of renewable energy assets through the capabilities gained from the creation of the new energy infrastructures business unit in Ferrovial.
Budimex stated that it wants to take an active part in the country’s energy transition and continue to expand its business profile with investments in renewable energy.
