European Energy has secured financing for a 38MW wind project in Poland.
Liskowo wind project in north-west Poland, which has a total value of €53m, is expected to be connected to the Polish grid in the first half of 2023.
The general contractor appointed by European Energy is a consortium of ONDE and P&Q
Poland is one of the key markets for European Energy, said Olga Sypula, Country Manager Poland in European Energy.
She said: “Securing this financing is an important step in rolling out our pipeline in Poland, where we currently have more than 4GW under development, which are now in majority solar energy projects, but we are expecting in the upcoming period changes in the legislation, which will let us develop more wind projects in Poland as well.”
In Poland, European Energy is operating 40MW of wind and has 91MW under construction, two thirds of which consists of wind projects.
Poland’s Energy Policy until 2040 assumes that 50% of electricity generation by 2040 will come from renewable sources and for EU target binding for Poland to reduce emissions by 55% in 2030 compared to 1990, more than 18GW of onshore wind power will be required.
According to the Energy Market Agency, the installed capacity of wind as of May 2022 is almost 7.2GW.
It is expected by the market players in renewable energy that the regulatory framework of Poland will become more attractive in the upcoming months, specifically the relaxation of the turbine distance rule that will allow construction of an additional 12-13GW by 2030.
