Deliveries of Enercon turbine components are underway to ERG’s 92MW Creag Riabhach onshore wind farm in Scotland.
Haulage specialist Collett has so far transported parts for four complete turbines to the site in the northern Highlands and expects to finish its programme for all 22 units by October.
A total of 242 components for the E115-model turbines will be moved 53 miles from storage at the Port of Nigg to the wind farm using Collett’s fleet of super wing carriers, clamp trailers, stepframes and 40-foot flats.
Test runs were completed prior to the first delivery in June to highlight the route modifications necessary for safe passage of the oversized loads.
Cargoes ranging from 31 to 73 tonnes are being transported using nine trailers travelling in convoys of three.
“On arrival at Creag Riabhach – due to site gradients, the dynamic nature of the weather and the subsequent site conditions – our team employed the additional traction of a double-drive towing vehicle, travelling in front of the delivery convoys for the heaviest components,” Collett said in a statement.
ERG is hopeful of bringing Creag Riabhach online before the end of the year following a disrupted construction programme caused by civil engineer Roadbridge’s collapse into receivership in March.
