Japanese company Jera and Corio Generation are to jointly bid later this year for the third phase of offshore wind blocks in Taiwan with the up to 2GW Formosa 3 project.
Formosa 3 will comprise three sites called Haiding 1, 2 and 3 off the coast of Changhua.
The developers said all three sites passed the environmental impact assessment in 2018.
Jera Energy Taiwan chief executive Koichi Tamura said: “Like Japan, Taiwan is currently in the stage of energy transition, and we are delighted to be part of and witness the development of Taiwan’s offshore wind power along the way.
“Jera Energy is in the Taiwan has worked hard for nearly 20 years and has actually contributed to the stability of Taiwan’s power supply.
“We look forward to leading the realization of the Haiding offshore wind power project with our solid development experience in Taiwan, helping Taiwan’s clean wind energy supply in the future, and further promoting it Taiwan’s green energy transformation.”
