Smulders has loaded out and shipped the first four of 95 transition pieces at its yard in Hoboken, Belgium for the 1200MW Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm to be located off east England.
The transition pieces were shipped to Sif’s Maasvlakte 2 terminal at Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The Dogger Bank TPs have a diameter of eight metres and weigh about 550 tonnes, which makes them the the widest and heaviest transition pieces ever manufactured in Hoboken.
A consortium Sif-Smulders was awarded the contract for the manufacture of all 190 monopiles and transition pieces for Dogger Bank A and B in November 2020.
In late 2021, the consortium was also awarded the contract for the third phase of the wind farm, Dogger Bank C.
The 3.6GW Dogger Bank project is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%) and Eni Plenitude (20%).
