Polish energy company Orlen Group is planning to take part in Lithuania’s inaugural 700MW offshore wind auction in 2023.
Orlen Group, which together with Northland Power is developing the 1.2GW Baltic Power offshore wind farm off Poland, said wind capacity expansion is among the strategic development directions that will determine the company’s future.
It added that it is also looking into a potential investment opportunity to develop 57MW of onshore wind near its Lithuanian refinery in Mazeikiai.
Preparations are now under way to make the investment decision, Orlen said.
The company said that aligned with its plans for wind development in Lithuania is possible investment in green hydrogen generation.
The plans were unveiled during a meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte (pictured, centre right) and PKN Orlen chief executive Daniel Obajtek (pictured, centre left).
