The Japanese government has awarded Japan’s first public offering plan certification for an offshore wind power generation facility to the Goto floating wind farm.
The award, under the Act of Promoting Utilization of Sea Areas in Development of Power Generation Facilities Using Maritime Renewable Energy Resources, was made by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.
Goto is being developed by a consortium of Toda Corporation, Eneos Corporation, Osaka Gas, Inpex Corporation, Kansai Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power.
The consortium was selected in a public bid as the contractor within the Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facility Maintenance Promotion Area Offshore Goto City in Nagasaki Prefecture on 11 June last year.
Construction will start in September and commercial operations are scheduled to begin in January 2024.
