Vattenfall and BASF are jointly participating in the tender for the 1400MW Hollandse Kust West wind farm.
The Swedish developer will sign up for both plots 6 and 7 of the wind farm with BASF as its partner for plot 7.
Hollandse Kust West wind farm is located approximately 53 kilometres off the coast of the Netherlands, with its total area being offered in two separate tenders.
The lots will each deliver 700MW of offshore wind energy capacity.
In the tender for site 6, a winner will be selected based on who is best able to mitigate the ecological impact of the wind farm, while for site 7, investments and innovations that benefit the Dutch energy system are the yardstick for selection.
The tenders for both locations will close on May 12, with a decision is expected from the Dutch government after the summer.
Vattenfall head of BA Wind Helene Biström said: “We are pleased with the decision of the Dutch government to continue its successful approach to the roll-out of offshore wind and to allocate sites in a tender based on qualitative criteria, this time focusing on ecology and system integration.
“This approach encourages developers to submit their best plans, stimulates innovation and puts the Netherlands at the forefront of offshore wind energy development.
“Hollandse Kust West is an important new step towards our ambition to achieve a fossil-free life within one generation.”
BASF president net zero accelerator Lars Kissau said: “Offshore wind farms play a decisive role in using innovative, low-emission technologies in our chemical production in Europe.
“That is why we already took an interest in Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm.
“With a joint tender for Hollandse Kust West Site VI, we are now taking this partnership a step further and BASF is participating as early as possible in a project that combines our need for additional amounts of sustainable energy with ecological aspects in the marine area.”
First power generation at Hollandse Kust West is expected in 2026.
