STEAG Solar Energy Solutions (SENS) has announced plans for a 17MW solar park in Italy on the site of a former quarry for the investor KGAL.
The plant in the Emilia Romagna region will be realised in the coming months and can supply the area with around 25 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green electricity per year.
With up to ten hours of sunshine per day, the region is an ideal location for generating energy using photovoltaics, SENS said.
The implementation of the project is the responsibility of the Italian subsidiary SENS Italia.
The project was initiated in a “record-breaking” four weeks from the initial discussion to the conclusion of the contract.
Construction of the project will start in the first quarter of 2022.
SENS Italia will be active as a project developer and EPC partner until completion at the end of the year.
This means that the solar experts at the Italian SENS subsidiary not only develop the project but also take care of the turnkey construction of the solar park and the subsequent operation of the system.
This also includes monitoring and feeding the renewable energy into the regional power grid and subsequent operation and maintenance services.
KGAL Investment Management’s managing director of sustainable infrastructure at Michael Ebner said: “We are again enthusiastic about the professional and extremely quick preparation by the SENS team.”
For KGAL and SENS, the project means the continuation of the long-standing partnership.
The two companies have already worked together successfully in Italy and Spain, among other places.
