Public support for renewable energy in Great Britain has reached a record high of 87%, with 90% of those surveyed supporting solar, according to the latest BEIS public attitudes poll.
When asked about individual technologies, the poll revealed support for solar is the highest, followed by 85% for wave and tidal, 84% of people supporting offshore wind and 80% supporting onshore wind.
The latest Public Attitudes Tracker survey was conducted in September and October.
Where support was lower, this was mainly driven by larger proportions saying they had no opinion.
Opposition remained low across all renewable energy technologies (between 1% and 7%).
Men were more likely than women to strongly support all types of renewable energy: solar (59% compared with 51%); wave and tidal (57% compared with 43%); offshore wind (55% compared with 42%); onshore wind (44% compared with 34%); and biomass (32%, compared with 29%).
Similarly, those educated to degree level were more likely than those without a degree to say they strongly supported each of these five types of renewable energy.
Official polling published today BEIS also shows that the percentage of people in the UK who are concerned about climate change has reached a record high.
