Vattenfall has taken a final investment decision to build the 344MW Vesterhav North and South offshore wind farms of the coast of Denmark.
Vattenfall chief executive Anna Borg said the €769m investment was part of the company’s ambition to enable fossil-free living within one generation.
The developer will build a new service facility at Hvide Sande Port, which will serve the new wind farms and Horns Rev 3.
Head of Business Area Wind Helene Biström said the project was heading into its final phase and the developer aimed to complete the wind farms by 2023.
“The decision is a sign of our commitment to the green transition in Denmark and Vattenfall’s contribution to the offshore wind industry and local job creation.”
Siemens Gamesa will supply the turbines for the new wind farms and Jan de Nul will install them.
Bladt Industries and EEW will work on foundation manufacturing and DEME on installation.
Hellenic will manufacture the cables and Asso will lay them.
Vesterhav Syd will consist of 20 turbines with capacity for 168MW and Nord will see 21 turbines installed with 176MW capacity.
The projects will be the only state-tendered offshore wind farms to be constructed in Denmark between now and the commissioning of Thor offshore wind farm in 2027.
