OX2 has applied for a permit to construct the up to 1700MW Galatea-Galene offshore wind farm in Sweden.

The developer is seeking permission to erect wind turbines, transformer stations and measuring masts for the project off the coast of Falkenberg and Varberg.

This application, made under the Act on Sweden’s Exclusive Economic Zone, is now scheduled to be assessed by the Swedish government.

The proposed wind farm will be divided into two sub-areas called Galatea which is located about 25km off Falkenberg, and Galene which will sited about 25km off Varberg, OX2 said.

It will comprise up to 101 turbines, with maximum heights of 340 metres and its total capacity will amount to output of about 6-7 terawatt-hours per year which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of about 1.2 million households in Sweden, the company added.

OX2 has also previously applied for a separate Natura 2000 permit for the Galatea-Galene project.

OX2 country manager for Sweden Hillevi Priscar said: “We have now arrived at the next phase and are looking forward to the next steps. Galatea-Galene would bring a significant amount of new Swedish renewable electricity to southern Sweden.

“The project is important for industry, business, households and the labour market.

“And it will also contribute to achieving Sweden’s ambitious environmental goals.”

OX2 said that the Galatea-Galene wind farm is part of its Swedish project development portfolio, which at the end of the third quarter of 2021 amounted to an overall capacity of 11.1 GW.
