The Danish government and the country’s main political parties have jointly agreed to hold additional tenders for 2GW of new offshore wind power.
The deal, contained in the Finance Act 2022 published at the weekend, will see the auctions held before 2031.
It includes an agreement to examine an additional 1GW of offshore wind power.
The parties have also said they will discuss proposed energy islands in the North Sea to ensure 10GW can be established “as soon as possible”.
Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (pictured) said: “Denmark has one of the world’s most ambitious climate goals, and today’s green agreement sets another milestone in Danish climate and energy policy.
“Firstly, we are ready to adopt completely new technologies such as pyrolysis or capture and storage of biogenic CO2. This gives us reductions of a further 0.5 million. tonnes already in 2025.
“Secondly, we can set up offshore wind on terms that are not going to cost the state money. This shows that there is an incredible speed in the development in the green area – both technologically and in the market.”
