Vattenfall is seeking a Scottish medium voltage electrical contractor to connect all 50 wind turbines at its 240MW South Kyle Wind Farm, which is currently under construction in South West Scotland.
The developer wants businesses close to its sites to have the chance to take full advantage of the economic benefits offered by renewable energy.
The company is urging Scottish firms to bid for the contract at South Kyle and says that bidders don’t need to have worked on wind farm projects previously in order to be considered.
Medium voltage electrical installation at this scale is a highly specialist field so Vattenfall and wind turbine supplier Nordex have made a film to explain what’s involved and invite interested companies to apply.
Vattenfall’s project manager for South Kyle Wind Farm Paul Nickless said: “There are more and more local businesses joining our supply chain, highlighting the benefits onshore wind farms can bring to the Scottish economy.
“This is a significant contract opportunity, and we want to work in partnership with our tier 1 suppliers to support them to recruit a local workforce.
“We also think it’s right to give companies with the skills and experience required, who might currently be operating in other sectors such as oil and gas, the opportunity to move into renewables.
“It is a specialist field, but previous wind farm experience isn’t necessary, as long as companies are prepared to get their staff trained to work in wind.”
