AES Indiana today announced plans to acquire and construct the 250MW Petersburg solar plus storage facility in the US state of Indiana from NextEra Energy Resources for an undisclosed price.
The project, in Pike county, will have 180 megawatt-hours of storage capacity.
It will be connected to AES Indiana’s existing Petersburg generating station and supply the equivalent of 45,000 homes during peak hours.
NextEra Energy Resources will develop and construct the project.
The solar farm also requires approval by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
If approved, it is expected to be operational no later than 1 May, 2024.
AES Indiana president and chief executive Kristina Lund said: “The Petersburg solar project is a win-win solution that adds new technologies to our generation fleet, while also keeping economic benefits right here in Indiana.
“We are excited to evolve our long-time partnership with Pike County, a community that has helped support and power the needs of Indianapolis for 50 years.”
