Repsol has officially opened the almost 127MW Kappa solar farm in Spain, the company’s first photovoltaic project.
Kappa is located in the town of Manzanares in the central Spanish province of Ciudad Real and represents an investment of €100m.
It is distributed across three plants – the operational 90.5MW Perseo Foton 1 and 2 and the 36.1MW Perseo Foton 3 still under development.
The solar farm consists of 285,331 modules capable of supplying renewable power to 71,000 homes.
Construction of Kappa has created 400 locally-sourced jobs throughout the various stages of development.
More than half of the workers have come from the town of Manzanares and its surroundings, Repsol said.
Repsol executive managing director of client and low-carbon generation Maria Victoria Zingoni said: “This milestone represents yet another step toward our goal of becoming a net zero emissions company by 2050.
“It’s an important project for the region of Castile-La Mancha, for Manzanares, and for Repsol, in an autonomous region where we foresee further development of our commitment to a multi-energy model.”
