EEW has secured a contract to supply monopiles for 448MW Calvados offshore wind farm (Courseulles-sur-Mer) off France.
EEW Special Pipe Constructions will manufacture 64 monopile foundations for Saipem, for the project, located off Normandy.
The contract, first reported in the reNEWS subscriber issue in February, was signed at the beginning of April 2021.
For Saipem it is the first monopile project in its history. “So far we have mainly successfully completed projects with Saipem in the areas of offshore oil / gas and clad pipes.
“We are proud that, after the good cooperation on the first Formosa II offshore wind jacket project, we are now able to implement the first monopile project for Saipem with Calvados Offshore Wind Farm,” said Michael Hof, EEW Holding managing director.
In total, EEW SPC will process around 50,000 tons of steel into monopiles from the third quarter of this year.
The Calvados wind farm is scheduled to go into operation from 2024.
EDF Renewables, Enbridge and WPD are developing the wind farm.
The total project cost is estimated at around €2bn.
The project’s wind turbines will be manufactured in Le Havre at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy’s Quai Joannes Couvert plant, which is currently under construction.
