Royal Smit Transformatoren has completed two transformers for TenneT to connect the 759MW Hollandse Kust North offshore wind farm.
The units are being transported by ship to Hoboken, where they are mounted in the superstructure of the platform at the Engie Fabricom site.
Mammoet loaded the 400MVA/230kV transformers and, on Monday, the inland vessel Gendtia will dock with the cargo in Hoboken, Belgium.
TenneT’s Arthur Rondeel said: “The platform for Hollandse Kust North will have a capacity to bring 700MW of green electricity ashore.
“This corresponds to the annual consumption of all households and industry in the city of Amsterdam.”
The jacket foundation for the Hollandse Kust North platform will be placed about 18km off the coast of Egmond in the autumn.
The topside will then be installed next year.
The platform is intended to be fully operational by 2023.
