Vestas has secured a 157MW turbine order from Neoen to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction of the Kaban Green Power Hub in Far North Queensland, Australia.
The project will feature 28 V162-5.6MW turbines from the EnVentus platform, marking the first EnVentus order for Asia Pacific and Australia.
It is also Neoen’s first Australian project with Vestas.
Delivery of the turbines will start in the first quarter of 2022, with commissioning scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Neoen said the deal also signals the start of construction of the project, which is expected to come online in 2023 generating 457 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Kaban Green Power Hub is an A$373m (€236m) investment located near the town of Ravenshoe in the Atherton Tablelands, creating 250 local construction jobs.
It also includes a 320km transmission line upgrade from 132kV to 275kV of the North Queensland coastal circuit.
The Queensland Government is committing A$40m towards the network upgrade which will support Kaban and establish the North Queensland Renewable Energy Zone.
The project has a long-term power purchase agreement with CleanCo, Queensland’s publicly-owned clean energy company.
Vestas Asia Pacific president Purvin Patel said: “Vestas is proud that through the Kaban Green Power Hub, Neoen and Vestas’ global partnership has been extended to Australia.
“We are pleased that Neoen has chosen our leading technology, market experience and broad service solutions to help them achieve the best return on investment for their project.”
Neoen Australia managing director Louis de Sambucy said: “Neoen is pleased to announce Vestas as the wind turbine supplier and principal contractor for Kaban Green Power Hub, which is our first project together in Australia.
“I would like to thank the Vestas team for all the hard work they have put into reaching this important milestone.
“We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Vestas in Australia as we continue to expand our portfolio of wind projects.”
Neoen is also working closely with the Jirrbal people, traditional owners of the land on which the project is located, to deliver a range of employment and community development outcomes.
