Japanese company Sumitomo Electric Industries has won a contract to supply a new 132kV export cable for the 576MW Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm 15km off the north coast of Wales.
The deal is with project’s grid assets owner Gwynt y Mor OFTO, Sumitomo Electric said.

Sumitomo Electric managing executive officer Yasuyuki Shibata said: “Sumitomo Electric aims to continue its contribution to support UK and EU governments’ offshore wind expansion plans towards net-zero 2050.”
The company added that its submarine cable technology was selected by Gwynt y Mor OFTO to “increase the reliability of its power transmission asset and maximise the availability of the wind farm”.
Gwynt y Mor was officially inaugurated in 2015.
