Enel Green Power Italia has commissioned the Partanna wind farm on the Italian island of Sicily.
The 14.4MW project, which is located in Contrada Magaggiari in the province of Trapani, comprises six 2.4MW turbines.
It will produce around 40 gigawatt-hours a year of electricity, while avoiding the annual emissions of about 18,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The facility is part of the allocation awarded in the GSE tender in Italy, which includes the construction of new capacity and the upgrading of existing plants.
Construction took eight months, the company said.
Enel Green Power chief executive Salvatore Bernabei said: “The commissioning of the Partanna wind farm marks another milestone in our strategy to develop new renewable energy capacity in Italy, and contributes to the ambitious decarbonisation goals of the Enel Group and the country.
“Today Enel’s production of energy from renewable sources, both globally and in Italy, already exceeds that of its thermoelectric plants.”
