Jasandra Nyker has been appointed as chief executive of Nala Renewables, which was set up by Trafigura Securities as a platform for investing in solar, onshore wind and storage projects globally.
Nyker will assume her position from 1 April 2021 and has worked in renewables and clean energy for 20 years, in roles spanning project development, investment and acquisitions.
Before joining Nala Renewables, Nyker managing director of Denham Capital Management in London, where she was involved in investing in and overseeing renewable power projects in Latin America, South East Asia and Africa.
Prior to this, she spent eight years as CEO of BioTherm Energy, an African independent power producer, which she built into a leading pan-African investment platform focused on the development of wind and solar assets.
Under her leadership, BioTherm Energy “grew rapidly and became a leader in the market”, building a number of the first wind and solar energy projects in South Africa.
In 2019, BioTherm Energy was acquired by Actis, a global emerging markets investment fund.
Established in September 2020, Nala Renewables has a short-term target to build a portfolio of renewable energy projects with a cumulative capacity of over 2GW.
The portfolio will comprise of projects in construction, in late stage development or in operation.
