UK Energy Minister Kwasi Kwarteng has pledged to flesh out details of the next CfD as soon as possible.
In a ministerial address on Friday at GOW2020, Kwarteng told delegates the round will open in late-2021 for both established and less established technologies.
“We will publish a formal government response very soon to give the clarity and certainty that the industry and broader investment community requires,” he said.
Kwarteng’s comments are carried in today’s special edition of reNEWS LiVE@ GOW 2020, which reports from the RUK-hosted virtual conference.
Also in today’s daily, the South Tees Development Corporation confirms it is applying for a slice of the government’s £160m fund to help develop its South Tees port for work in the offshore wind sector.
Tess Valley major Ben Houchen told GOW2020 the corporation will file an expression of interest before the entry deadline closes today.
The special edition also carries Scottish Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse’s warning that the offshore wind sector needs to “up its game” in delivering supply chain jobs in Scotland.
Wheelhouse told GOW2020 delegates that jobs going overseas risks undermining “the very strong social licence for offshore wind”.
Elsewhere, departing RenewableUK chief Hugh McNeil gives his take on the offshore wind industry’s progress in his time in the hot seat.
Siemens Gamesa UK managing director Clark MacFarlane meanwhile sat down with reNEWS to discuss vital issues shaping the offshore wind sector.
