National Grid has warned of tight margins on the UK electricity grid in the coming days due partly to “unusually low wind output”.
The system operator said the weather as well as a number of unspecified generator outages will reduce spare capacity.

It warned this will be particularly apparent when there are periods of high demand.
“Unusually low wind output coinciding with a number of generator outages means the cushion of spare capacity we operate the system with has been reduced,” said a tweet from the company.
“We’re exploring measures and actions to make sure there is enough generation available to increase our buffer of capacity.”
National Grid is due to give a further update later on Wednesday.
