Bright Energy Investments has completed the 180MW Warradarge wind farm in Western Australia’s Mid-West.
Through a staged commissioning process, the 51-turbine wind farm will power up to its full generating capacity by the end of October.
The wind farm’s location – 15km north-east of Warradarge, 15km south-east of Eneabba and 40km south-west of Carnamah – was chosen to take advantage of abundant wind resources of the region and its proximity to transmission infrastructure.
Each turbine weighs 181 tonnes with 67 metre-long blades, has a hub height of 84 metres and height of 151 metres to the top of the blade tip.
Specialist technicians are now busy running tests on each of the turbines in turn in preparation for the generation and export from the entire wind farm into the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) following commissioning.
Bright Energy Investments general manager Tom Frood said despite the challenges relating to COVID-19, the project has been delivered successfully.
“Bright Energy Investments is incredibly proud this large-scale renewable energy project has come to fruition.
“The Warradarge Wind Farm is a world-class asset, and the culmination of this significant project is reflective of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.”
More than 200 jobs were created during construction of the wind farm, which was completed within 12 months from first mobilisation to site.
At full power, Warradarge will generate enough renewable energy to supply the equivalent of 135,000 Western Australian homes.
Along with Warradarge, Bright Energy Investments has completed the stage two expansion of the Greenough River Solar Farm near Geraldton and refurbishment works to extend the life of the Albany Grasmere wind farm.
