RWE has started commercial operations at the 220MW Cranell wind farm in Texas.
The $250m project features 100 Vestas 2.2MW turbines and will generate enough electricity to power 66,000 homes.
It brings RWE’s operational wind farms in the US to 25, with installed capacity of more than 4.2GW.
RWE Renewables onshore wind and solar PV Americas chief operating officer Silvia Ortin said: “RWE is thrilled to be announcing our seventh Texas coastal wind project reach commercial operation.
“We are particularly proud this project was completed without a reportable safety incident and many of the permanent positions at the facility were hired from the local region.
“With almost one gigawatt under construction, we have firmly established our position as an industry leader in the US.”
Cranell is the second of RWE’s US onshore wind farms to come online this year, with the 151MW Peyton Creek project also in Texas having started producing electricity in March.
RWE has almost 1GW of onshore wind farms under construction in the US, located in Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio and New York State.
