Siemens Gamesa has secured turbine orders totalling 260MW in Pakistan in the final quarter of its fiscal year 2020, which runs from June to September.
The orders are the latest for eight new wind farms in Pakistan secured during the company’s 2020 fiscal year, which come to 410MW in total.
Siemens Gamesa will supply, install and commission a total of 205 units from its 2.X platform for the eight projects.
Two of the projects have already started construction, with commissioning expected in November 2020 and February 2021.
All eight wind farms will be fully operational at the end of 2021, providing “clean and affordable electricity and significantly alleviating the power shortage in Pakistan” where 40 million residents have no access to electricity supply, said Siemens Gamesa.
Siemens Gamesa chief regions officer, onshore Enrique Pedrosa said: “As a global pioneer of wind solutions, Siemens Gamesa has a track record of bringing innovative technologies to developing markets across the globe.
“We’re pleased with the impact and partnership we have been able to make in Pakistan.”
Siemens Gamesa signed its first project in Pakistan, for 50MW, three years ago.
The Pakistani government aims to boost renewable energy in its energy mix to 30% by 2030.
