Vattenfall kicks off procurement for Norfolk giant

Vattenfall has gone to market for key contractors to help build its consented 1800MW Norfolk Vanguard project off East Anglia in the UK.

The Swedish developer is tendering for turbines, converters and cables for the project as well as onshore work packages and port services.

Project director Rob Anderson (pictured) said expertise, flexibility and vision from the supply chain will be key if the project is to successfully compete at next year’s CfD4 auctions.

“We need the supply chain beside us to bring the cost of energy down while maximising UK content,” said Anderson, who is also project director for Vanguard’s 1.8GW sister project, Norfolk Boreas.

The developer said it is collaborating with potential suppliers to ensure it delivers high volumes of local content from both Norfolk projects.

“We are working with tier ones, making sure we have good partnerships and they will engage with the local chain, he said.

“We need the supply chain thinking and working with us for the best outcome in these most challenging of times. We will involve all of the local supply chain as much as we can in the development of these projects and have been working with hundreds of local businesses.”

Vattenfall secured planning consent for its 1.8GW Vanguard project earlier this summer and is also hopeful planners will green light its 1.8GW Norfolk Boreas project shortly.

Anderson will share more information about the projects during EEGR’s Southern North Sea 2020 conference and exhibition next week.
