Global energy consultancy Xodus will carry out phase one environmental work on the A$300m Arrowsmith hydrogen project, Australia’s first large-scale 100% green hydrogen plant.
Infinite Blue Energy (IBE) has selected Xodus’ to deliver a preliminary environmental impact assessment and identification, manage permits and flora and fauna surveys and provide geological and ad-hoc environmental support, including stakeholder consultation.
When completed, the site, located 320 km north of Perth, is projected to produce 25 tonnes of green hydrogen per day.
Xodus principal environmental consultant Naomi Kerp (pictured) said that IBE is “at the forefront of green energy in Australia”.
“Projects like this can help establish Australia as a global leader in the production and supply of zero-emissions hydrogen fuel so it’s fantastic for us to be part of it from the very beginning,” she said.
IBE group secured investment for the project earlier this year.
Money from a A$70m funding round for green hydrogen projects launched by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) in April is expected to be awarded by the end of the year.
ARENA received 36 expressions of interest for green hydrogen projects totalling almost 500MW.
Kerp said the interest came from “every state and territory” in Australia.
“We’re seeing records of renewable generation broken on a regular occurrence and [this] highlights the changing supply mix throughout the energy market as the country goes through a fairly rapid energy transition.”
