UK wind technology developer SENSE Wind is gearing up to demonstrate its Self-Erecting Nacelle and Service System for installing wind turbines.
The company says the method, which uses a specially designed transporter unit to hoist fully assembled nacelles and rotors up wind turbine towers, can slash the cost of installing wind turbines both on and offshore.
SENSE Wind will next month test the technology by installing the blades and nacelle of a Vestas V27 turbine in Northern Ireland, in what will be the first live demo of its ‘Rotor Nacelle Assembly Installer’ technology.
“The demo project is a key milestone as we actively engage with parties regarding our current fundraising round, to build on the support we’ve already received from Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Carbon Limiting Technologies,” the company said.
