Ukraine and Germany have agreed an energy partnership which will see the Eastern European country provided with support to modernise its electricity sector, expanding and integrating renewable generation.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two countries’ energy ministries which will also cover increased cooperation on climate issues and energy efficiency.
The transformation of Ukraine’s coal regions and potential future development of hydrogen in the country have also been discussed.
German Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier said he was “very pleased” energy cooperation was continuing and said the energy partnership was intended to have a “permanent basis”.
He added: “The energy partnership offers an important framework for political dialogue in the energy sector for both sides.”
The plans are expected to consolidate the federal government’s bilateral work with Ukraine in the energy sector.
