Dutch contractor Iv-Offshore & Energy has signed an early works contract with Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms to provide engineering for the 1400MW Sofia offshore wind farm’s HVDC platform.
Iv-Offshore & Energy is Sembcorp’s engineering subcontractor for the balance of plant installation providing detailed design for both the topside and jacket foundation and procurement of the topside equipment.
In 2018, UK Grid Solutions and Iv-Offshore & Energy completed a FEED study for the proposed Sofia HVDC platform.
The offshore converter platform will convert the electricity generated by the 100 turbines from 66kV AC up to 320kV DC before transmission to shore.
Sembcorp Marine and GE Renewable Energy were chosen by the project’s developer RWE as preferred bidders for the transmission system for Sofia.
The partners were scheduled to start early design works in July, with the full contract subject to the project’s final investment decision, due in the first quarter of 2021.
