Saipem renewables bet eases oil price

Italian marine contractor Saipem has landed three offshore wind transport and installation contracts totalling more than €90m.

The company will use its flagship crane vessel Saipem 7000 to carry out jobs at the Seagreen, Dogger Bank A&B and Saint Brieuc wind farms.

The company will install all 114 suction bucket jacket foundations at SSE Renewables and Total’s 1075MW Seagreen project off the east coast of Scotland.

Saipem was awarded the gig under a subcontract from the project’s EPCI contractor for foundations and array cables, Subsea 7.

Details of the deal were first reported in subscriber-only reNEWS last month.

The Italian contractor has also announced two further offshore wind jobs for the vessel.

The 7000 will install two HVDC platforms and their associated jacket foundations for Equinor’s 1.2GW Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B projects.

Saipem said the jackets weigh-in at 2900 tonnes, while the two topsides are 8500-tonne units.

The Italian contractor will also install the jacket foundation and topside for the offshore substation for Ailes Marines 496MW Saint Brieuc project off the coast of Brittany in France.

Saipem’s E&C offshore division chief operating officer Francesco Racheli said: “These new contracts confirm Saipem’s participation in the most relevant offshore wind farm developments and are the tangible results of a strategy which has led us to become a global reference player in energy transition.”

“This significant achievement has been attained by leveraging on our capabilities, our technological flexibility and our distinctive assets.”

Dogger Bank, Saint Brieuc and Seagreen are all due online in 2023, with Dogger Bank B set to follow in 2024.
